Karren met die bak!
Het was eindelijk zover we konden vandaag onze campervan (lees: bestelbusje) ophalen. Geen georganiseerde tours of openbare busdiensten meer. We konden nu zelf bepalen waar we naar toe wilden gaan en wanneer. We hebben allebei al tijden geen auto gereden dus rijden aan de linkerkant moest geen probleem zijn. Als we nu maar weer makkelijk kunnen wennen als we terug zijn! Kortom, karren met die bak!
In onze scheetbus (hij pruttelt lekker 
) zijn we naar de supermarkt gegaan om flink in te slaan. De supermarkt verkocht ook benzine dus we gooiden het busje meteen maar vol. We waren er helemaal klaar voor en reden naar onze eerste bestemming: Geraldine. Hier hebben we onze eerste nacht in onze scheetbus geslapen. Het was ons prima bevallen!
Zondag 27 april
Op de terugweg waren de wolken die Mount Cook afschermden inmiddels verdwenen en namen we bij Peters lookout nog een foto:
We reden naar een klein dorpje genaamd Twizel en checkte in bij de plaatselijke camping. Na wat boodschappen genoten we van van de ondergaande zon, een biertje en een zoutje, heerlijk!
Vanuit Twizel zijn we met ons busje naar naar Oamaru gereden. Carolien had in de Lonely Planet gelezen dat bij de plaatselijke kaasfabriek, de cheesecake een ware verwennerij moest zijn. De cheesecake was inderdaad genieten en het vulde behoorlijk. Met volle buikjes zijn we naar een warenhuis gegaan om wanten,muts en muziek cd’s voor onderweg te kopen.
Het rook hier dus net als herfst thuis ruikt en met weemoed dachten we terug aan het begin van de reis, toen bedachten we ons dat de reis wel heel snel aan het vorderen is en het er over 2 landen al op zit 
en ja natuurlijk dachten we ook even aan thuis waar we straks gelukkig eerst nog even zomer meemaken (met een beetje mazzel) voordat het daar ook weer herfst is. We verkenden het stadje waar vreemd genoeg geen hond te bekennen was en alle kroegen en restaurant er verlaten bijlagen. Nu had het de hele dag wel zo’n beetje geregend maar dit was wel heel bizar. Uiteindelijk kwamen we uit in een schattig oud straatje waar we door een man die buiten op een stoeltje zat werden gevraagd een galerie te komen bezoeken. Volgens eigen zeggen erg apart. Eenmaal binnengekomen leek het wel een andere wereld, een kruising van Dali en Venetiaans Carnaval met overal gezichten en maskers en grote papieren mache lampionnen (ook weer met gezichten) die de hal verlichten. Een hele aparte sfeer. Hij vertelde dat ze elk jaar een optocht door de stad houden met al die lampionnen. Het was moeilijk wegkomen maar toen hij een belletje kreeg grepen we onze kans.
Woensdag 30 april
In Oamaru zijn we naar de penguin uitkijkpost gereden. Tijdens de rit ernaartoe regende het flink en de wolken werden steeds donkerder. Eenmaal bij de penguin post aangekomen , bleken de blauwe pinguins gevlogen, maar spotten wel een zeeleeuw.
In de ochtend reden we via de Peninsula terug naar Dunedin, om het een flitsbezoek te brengen. Toen we de brug opgingen richting Dunedin sorteerde Martijn verkeerd voor en belanden we aan de verkeerde kant van de weg. Oeps! Daar stonden we dan met onze scheetbus. Wroeetttt!! in de achteruit! En hoppa, probleem verholpen (no worries moeders!). Binnnen een uur waren we uit Dunedin en reden we naar Nugget Point, waar we voor het eerst yellow eyed pinguins hebben uitgecheckt, LEUK! Hier stond ook de bekende witte vuurtoren en die werd uitgelicht door de laatste zonnestralen van de dag. Je begrijpt het, Carolien kreeg het op haar heupen, en dacht dat haar fototoestel een mitrailleur was ( klik, klik klik, klikkklik). De geheugen kaart was binnen no time vol. Aarghhh! Martijn keek met lede ogen toe… Maar het was zo mooi: rotspartijen in de zee, zon die onderging een regenboog. Kortom, een beeld zegt meer dan duizend woorden:
Na deze volle dagbesteding was het inmiddels vrij laat en besloten we om fish en chips te halen bij de plaatselijke snackbar. We zetten ons bus na het eten neer bij de Kaka point holiday park. Het bleek superkoud in de keuken. Een lieve shiba kat vergezlede ons en kwam tussen ons in zitten om op te warmen en we hebben samen in de keuken tv gekeken. Voordat we gingen slapen hadden we de motor van de auto aangezet voor warme blowers en onze waterflessen gebruikt als warme kruik. We lagen om 20.00 uur al in bed, niet omdat we moe waren maar omdat het zo koud was!
Vrijdag 2 mei
Onderweg kwamen we hagel, sneeuw en regenstormen tegen afgewisseld door zonneschijn. Daarna hebben we onze weg vervolgd naar Curio Bay, weggetje in wat waarschijnlijk niet de bedoeling was, maar hier hadden we een fantastisch uitzicht over de ruige natuur van Nieuw Zeeland: enorme rotspartijen en beukende golven.
Op naar de meest zuidelijk gelegen stad ter wereld: Invercargill. Hier hebben we wat boodschappen ingeslagen en zijn we uit de stad naar onze slaapbestemming gereden. Loneville holidaypark, een schattig plekje dat werd gerund door een ouder stel. De keuken was open tot half tien s’avonds en daar bleven we dan maar zitten tot die tijd aangezien de tot tv omgebouwde schuur de temperatuur had van een jagermeister die klaar is voor consumptie. Na een grondige voorbereiding van een met drie dekens opgemaakt bed, twee flessen met heel warm water en thermokleding, fleecetrui en sokken lagen we er weer vroeg in. De nachttemperaturen hier raken nog net niet het vriespunt. Martijn besloot dat we er ook weer vroeg uitgingen door stiekem de wekker een uur eerder te zetten.
Zaterdag 3 mei
Helaas werden we al snel belaagd door de beruchte zandvliegjes dus konden we niet te lang blijven. Na al die gravelweggetjes naar mooie plekjes ziet onze bus er al behoorlijk off road uit. Hoog tijd voor een schoonmaakbeurt.
Zondag 4 mei
De voorruit was bedekt met een laagje ijs, dus Martijn moest met de pollepel aan het krabben.
We namen de boot naar de elektriciteitscentrale, waar ze energie produceren op een hele bijzondere manier en vervolgens met een grotere boot naar Doubtful Sound. Deze sounds of bergen in het water heten zo omdat Captain Cook niet zeker wist of er wel genoeg wind tussen zou waaien om hem er weer uit te krijgen en daarom maar besloot er niet in te varen. Russel was onze guide, een aardige kerel vol met informatie over het gebied en wat we zagen. Onderweg spotte hij zeehonden en dolfijnen voor ons die we allebei van heel dichtbij hebben kunnen bekijken! De omgeving was indrukwekkend, de superlatieven zouden je weer eens om de oren kunnen vliegen maar dan blijven we bezig. Dus als je de kans hebt, bevelen we je aan het zelf te gaan bekijken, tot die tijd hebben we hier een paar foto’s.
Onderweg gebeurde er nog iets verschrikkelijks. Martijn maakte een filmpje van de waterval die allemaal gaten in de stenen maakt ook wel Chasm genaamd, toen hij iets te ver vooroverboog en zijn zonnebril verloor in het wervelende water. Balend keek hij hem na, want het was een cadeau van zijn broer. Hij weet nu in ieder geval wat hij dit jaar voor zijn verjaardag kan vragen :-).
We hadden de tank iets bijgevuld maar niet helemaal volgetankt omdat het een stuk duurder was dan in de volgende bestemmingen, we redden het neeet. Toen we Te Anau weer binnenreden stond het wijzertje net onder E… We gooiden er weer iets bij en gingen meteen weer verder. Op naar Queenstown, extreme sport city!

Ongelofelijk wat is dat Nieuw-Zeeland mooi!! En wat een top-auto hebben jullie gehuurd!! Zit er wel een motor in, of is het een zogenaamde “Flinstone-wagen”??? Geniet in ieder geval van die rust en ruimte daar, voor je het weet zit je weer in het overbevolkte Europa!! Kussen van Cordless!!
P.s. Voor Tinus nog even een voetbalupdate; Ajax speelt de finale van de play-offs tegen Twente en F******* heeft de beker gewonnen, toch weer een prijssie na 6 jaar nix!!

Nog grappiger is dat het zo koud is bij jullie, wij hebben heerlijk weer, tuindeurtje van ’s morgens vroeg tot ’s avonds laat open. Heerlijk.
Prachtig land, daar hebben jullie in de sms geen woord te veel over gezegd.
En dan gewoon iemand uit Wormerveer ontmoeten, hahahah daar ben je dan zoveel kilometers voor van huis. Echt leuk.

Maarre zit er geen ijskrabbertje in de eerste hulp/kit of is de inhoud van de scheetbus zo schaars dat zelfs dat niet bij de basistoerusting behoort…
Beeetje lullig met een pollepel ijskrabben, mag je toch hopen dat de komende weken de temperatuur niet verder daalt….dán mag je de wekker wel drie uur stiekum vooruit zetten Martijn !!!
Jammer van die zonnebril…snel aan het werk na thuiskomst….effe doorsparen en je hebt er weer een..twwede optie is natuurlijk china waar alles weer spotgoedkoop is…en wat is een zonnebril naast een cannon camera …..
