Gisteren nog even een nieuwe sim-kaart gekocht en ons Thaise nummer is: +66 817706051. Daarop kun je ons smsjes sturen. Daarna nog even richting Koh san road en langs allerlei gezellige barretjes en terrasjes op straat maar eigenlijk hadden we het helemaal gehad en wilden we lekker naar bed. Dus dat gedaan.
De tweede dag in Bangkok, lekker geslapen en wild gedroomd. Even met het vliegveld gebeld en de tas wordt vandaag verwacht. Indruk van Bangkok tot nu toe: overweldigend en ontzettend smerig. Je wordt schor van alle uitlaatgassen die op je longen en je keel slaan. Er is heel veel verkeer (waar eigenlijk niet?) en overal mensen en eten op straat. Dat wil ook wel met 9 miljoen inwoners. Veel verpaupering en veel schoonheid, allemaal door elkaar. Hans (van Linda) zei in de taxi al dat hij had gelezen dat Bangkok niet is gebouwd maar is ontstaan en dat klopt helemaal.
Vandaag wilden we kleding kopen maar ook wat bezienswaardigheden zien, zoals het Grand Royal Palace. Carolien voelde zich echter niet helemaal op haar gemak. Ken je die toeristen met witte sokken (hoog opgetrokken) in de sandalen, hoedje op, ruitjesoverhemd en fototoestel om de nek? Zo voelde ze zich ongeveer. De ultratoerist zeg maar. En toen bleek dat we toch niet zo goed voorbereid (?! ja ja je leest het goed, daar was natuurlijk geen tijd meer voor na al dat andere voorbereid zijn) bij de tempels aankwam (afritsbare delen van broek niet mee) besloten we meteen naar de grootste shopping mall van Bangkok te gaan.
Ondertussen waren we al door heel wat mensen benaderd die wat van ons wilden, met name de tuk tuk chauffeurs zijn erg aanhoudend. Maar gelukkig ook door mensen die ons wel spontaan wilde helpen zonder daar iets terug voor te verwachten. We namen de bus en dat was helemaal super. We zaten goed en hoog en zagen veel van de stad. In de mall, (enorm!) hebben we flink huisgehouden: petjes, broeken, shirts, sarong, eten. Alles bij elkaar: 20 euro (echt wat voor smeer!). Foto’s volgen. Nu gaan we lekker naar Koh San Road en morgen gaan we echt in de cultuur duiken. Zoals het er nu uitziet gaan we (mits de tas zo arriveert) maandagmiddag naar de Royal Barges (koninklijke boten) met de koning himself erin bekijken. Dit gebeurt maar eens in de zoveel jaar. O ja waarom hij nu overal hangt is omdat hij vorig jaar 60 jaar koning is en dit jaar 80 jaar wordt. In de shopping mall werd een soort music video vertoont waarin hij werd bejubeld.. het is.. apart. Na het kijken naar die koninklijke boten gaan we waarschijnlijk met de bus en speedboot naar Koh Tao een heerlijk bounty eiland om te leren duiken. Dit besluiten we morgen.
Verder is ons favoriete Thaise eten tot nu toe vegetarische loempia’s met een soort honingsausje van ons eigen New Siam guesthouse hmmmm! Nog iets wat we even kwijt willen: Het is echt heel leuk om al jullie reacties op onze stukjes te lezen! Ga vooral zo door.

wat lekker dat jullie veilig aangekomen zijn, toch weer een opstekertje voor de troessie.
Ik vind het hartstikke leuk om zo jullie verslag te volgen en bij deze word ik fan.
Gelukkig zijn jullie wel zo eerlijk te vermelden dat er ondanks Caroline’s gedegen voorbereiding, toch iets mis ging, want ik kreeg al bijna

Wat leuk dat jullie in Thailand zitten, Ik ben er van de zomer toevallig ook geweest super mooi land. Al plannen waar jullie allemaal naar toe gaan in Thailand?? Noorden is erg mooi (Chang Mai en Chang Rai) je kan daar ook jungle tochten doen (1,2,3 dagen erg mooi en leuk wel oude kleren gebruiken).
Zeker moet je ook naar Kho Pang Nang, Koh samui en Koh Pipi gaan als jullie er tijd voor hebben. Probeer trouwens overal te onderhandelen, vaak krijg je meer dan 50 % korting, Taxi’s kan je het best op de meter doen ook al willen niet alle chauffeurs dat maar dan pak je gewoon een ander, zit er altijd een tussen die het wel op de meter doet (wij betaalde van het vlieg veld naar Kho San road 250 Bat (5 €)). Heel veel plezier met jullie reis.
