Terug naar Nederland
Het begin van onze reis door Azie en Oceanie wordt een lang weekend Bangkok.
Het is ongelooflijk maar waar, afgelopen zondag hebben we een off the beaten track route gevolgd in Thailand, een plek waar (gelukkig) niet veel toeristen komen, namelijk het ziekenhuis. Carolien had in Nederland al twee dagen last van een pijntje in haar buikstreek. We dachten dat dit een spier was, verrekt tijdens het verhuizen of misschien wel de zenuwen. Want ze was van buiten wel erg relaxed over deze lange, verre reis. In Thailand ging het echter niet weg en werd het zelfs erger. Daarom gingen we zondag naar het Mission Hospital. Dit ziekenhuis staat bekend als internationaal ziekenhuis. Daar vulde Carolien wat formulieren in en kreeg ze een pasje. Toen werd ze gewogen, werd haar bloeddruk gemeten en gevraagd of ze koorts had. In het ziekenhuis stond alles in het Thais en het Engels. We namen plaats in de wachtkamer, dit was eigenlijk gewoon de hele ruimte en de doktoren zaten in aangrenzende kamertjes. Aan de muur hingen schilderijen van dokters met een man erachter die verdacht veel op een jezusfiguur leek. Later bleek dat het mission hospital een zevende dag adventisten ziekenhuis was. Na niet al te lange tijd werden we geroepen en mochten we naar de Amerikaanse (met gebleekte tanden en alles) dokter Nick Walters. Hij vroeg Carolien de klachten te beschrijven en stelde doeltreffende vragen om erachter te komen wat het wel en niet zou kunnen zijn. Carolien kon de plek direct aanwijzen en dit lag vlakbij de blinde darm. Hij stelde voor twee testen te doen om erachter te komen wat het precies was. Een plastest en een echo.
Hiervoor moest eerst haar blaas goed vol zitten. Dit duurde even maar nadat ze een hele fles water van 1.5 liter had gedronken was ze er helemaal klaar voor. Uit de echo en plastest bleek dat haar blaas en nieren in orde waren, ook haar blinde darm was niet zo groot dat deze op de echo te zien was. De oorzaak van de pijn was haar rechtereierstok. Deze is ruim twee keer zo groot als normaal. Hierna werd ze doorverwezen naar de gynaecoloog. Die vond het vreemd dat het pijn deed en heeft een bloedtest af laten nemen, onder andere om te testen op kanker.
Dit was nogal schrikken allemaal. De rest van de dag hebben we rustig aan gedaan en we zijn op tijd gaan slapen. De volgende dag om 11 uur mochten we terugkomen voor de resultaten. We waren op tijd wakker en ruim op tijd aanwezig. De resultaten waren gelukkig allemaal ok, alle waarden lagen binnen de normale proporties (een hele geruststelling). De eierstok is echter te groot om mee verder te reizen, dit zegt ook de arts van de OHRA hulpdienst. Daarom lassen we een pauze van maximaal 2 maanden in onze reis in. In deze tijd laat Carolien zich in Nederland behandelen en kan ze herstellen. Daarna kunnen we gezond weer op reis. Vanavond vliegen we alweer terug naar Nederland, waar we op 8 november om 09:00 landen. Jammer, maar het is even niet anders.

Jeetje Carolien, wie had dit verwacht?! Wat een pech, zeg! Wel goed om te lezen dat jullie de reis weer gaan oppakken over 2 maanden. Misschien heb je nu nog wel even tijd/zin om de over een paar weken Cas komen te bekijken. Nog bedankt voor je lieve kaartje. Dat je daar zelfs nog aan hebt gedacht zo op de laatste dag dat jullie in Nederland waren!
